The Spring Festival at Dos Mundos Academy was a chance for the community to celebrate their students’ success while learning more about cultures at the school.

Previously Valley Crest Elementary, Dos Mundos Academy (5240 W. 3100 South) is a Spanish Dual Language Immersion School, where classes are taught in both English and Spanish for kids in grades K-5. Dos Mundos means “two worlds” in Spanish.

“We hold these events quarterly, and it’s about getting the community engaged with their kids’ learning, and getting them celebrating these two languages and two cultures,” said Principal Nick Blight.

Participants watched performances, visited with local organizations, learned about STEM concepts and enjoyed pizza during the Spring Festival.

“We combine a cultural celebration, a meal with our families and an academic event,” Blight said. “It’s a STEM night at the same time as having songs and dances and enjoying each other’s company.”
