It is hoped that a sound system carrying pet-calming music and sounds will help dogs like this one at the West Valley City Animal Shelter bark less and relax more. (Darrell Kirby/City Journals)
Some changes have been made in relation to license fees for pets under the West Valley City Animal Control Division. While many costs have stayed the same, there have been a few changes and additions.
People age 60 and over will pay $1 to license their pets. All others will be under current charges depending on whether the pet is spayed or neutered. Additional license fees have been added for license transfer (up from $1 to $5 with current proof of license and rabies vaccination), ferrets $35 with a rabies certificate required, and pot-bellied pigs $35, with trimmed or removed tusks and sterilization required, along with a certificate of rabies vaccination. The pig cannot weigh over 150 pounds.
Adoption fees from the animal shelter include all cats and dogs microchipped, with rabies and other vaccinations. Fees can be discounted for special events. The fee for puppies (under one year old) is $100, down from $155, and for older dogs, $50, down from $85. For kittens under one year old, the fee is $75, down from $80, and for older cats, it is $40, down from $55. Other animals like fowl, reptiles and small exotic animals can be adopted for a $30 fee, down from $50.
Sterilization fees for redemption or impounded animals include a $75 sterilization deposit, up from $50. A sterilization deposit processing fee of $20 will be refunded if proof of sterilization is provided during a required time period.
