Exhibit at Utah Cultural Celebration Center highlights American democracy

A bit of the Smithsonian Institution is in West Valley City.
The world’s largest museum based in Washington, D.C., brings to the Utah Cultural Celebration Center a traveling exhibition titled “Voice and Votes: Democracy in America.” The exhibit runs through May.
The exhibit features “the ongoing story of democracy in the United States and the many ways people have shaped it over time,” according to the announcement about the display. It also features displays within the exhibit “that reflect the history and identity of West Valley City.” They include:
• 72 Voices | 72 Votes — The story of how our city came to be.
• Amewica250 — work by internationally known Japanese-born artist Shu Yamamoto, who lives in Sandy. See the City Journal article on him here: www.sandyjournal.com/2018/05/15/173315/masterpieces-of-purrfection
• Campaign Buttons 1896-2024 — a historic collection from former West Valley City Mayor Mike Winder.
The exhibit is free and open to the public Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday and Sunday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until May 30.
