Mick Sudbury was sworn in during a ceremony in January as the new city’s first mayor chosen by the majority of voters who cast ballots during a municipal election in November.

After being elected mayor, Sudbury, a lifelong resident of Magna, vacated his seat on the Magna City Council but continues to serve on the board of trustees of the Magna Water District. He becomes the first elected mayor of the city of 30,000 people since it gained cityhood status in 2024 following state legislation earlier that year that granted full municipal authority to the five metro townships in Salt Lake County that previously had limited autonomy and no ability to assess taxes.

Also sworn into office were first-time city councilmembers Megan Olsen and Terry George.
