The newest attraction in West Valley City will be an obstacle course.

With property acquired two years ago by the city next to West View Park, officials plan on building a challenge course that will include a two-lane 40-yard dash and full ninja/challenge course with timing systems for both.

“It’s kind of a neat amenity to add to our city,” Jaime Young[LL1]  told the West Valley City Council.

In July, the council unanimously approved the parks department to accept a $192K grant from the Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity.

The park, located at 4050 S. 6000 West, has undeveloped land directly adjacent to the Salt Lake Canal trail system and officials felt this would complement further development of the area.

It will be the first of its kind in the valley and second in the state, the other being in Washington City in southern Utah.

The amenity will feature two lanes where 40-yard dash times can be recorded. Runners will start after three beeps and the finish line will be marked by a laser for accurate timing. The clock will run on its own.

Timing for the challenge course will be started by those using the park with the participant able to stop the clock themselves when finishing the course. It is basically a scaled down version of something you’d see on “American Ninja Warrior.”

Officials are in the process of procuring services to construct the course.
