West Valley City Mayor Ron Bigelow is the newest member of the ChamberWest Hall of Fame.

The chamber of commerce, which represents businesses in West Valley, Taylorsville, Kearns, and West Jordan, inducted Bigelow at its 2020 Annual Awards Gala at the Maverik Center.

“Our Hall of Fame award is for people who have made a significant contribution to promote and enhance the community and economic development in our area that is represented by ChamberWest,” said chamber president and CEO Barbara Riddle. “It’s really a forum to honor those who give to the local community.”

Bigelow downplayed the recognition, saying he was just doing what a mayor does in promoting his community.

“I must admit I was very surprised. It was not something I thought about, but certainly it was an honor. I didn’t feel individually like I was doing anything unusual, but I guess they appreciated the efforts I put in,” he said.

ChamberWest started the Hall of Fame in 2017. Members are voted in by the chamber’s board of directors. Past inductees are Sen. Karen Mayne, D-West Valley City, and her late husband, Ed, a former state senator and long-time president of the Utah AFL-CIO; Bob Harmon, vice president of Harmon’s Grocery; and Kyle Treadway of Kenworth Truck Sales in West Valley.

Other awards handed out at the gala were for Business of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Best Place to Work, Best New Business, and Volunteer of the Year
