The Pac-12 Conference has cancelled all sport competitions, including championship events, because of Coronavirus concerns, according to a press release sent out by the conference Thursday morning.

That will have an impact on West Valley City because the 2020 Pac-12 Gymnastics championship was scheduled to take place at the Maverick Center on March 23.

In 2018, the West Valley City Council voted to approve the purchase of $110,000 worth of new gymnastics equipment for the Maverick Center in order to secure a contract to host the event for a period of three years.

“This is a situation where in order to draw in those additional revenues, this is the price tag up front,” Mayor Ron Bigelow said at the time. “In the long run it should pay off well…It’s more of an investment for the future.”
