The rapid increase in home values has tapered in some cities across the U.S. in recent months, but West Valley City continues to see housing prices rise at a moderate rate.

Figures from real estate website Zillow show that the median home value in West Valley City jumped 11.3% between May 2018 and May 2019, placing the city 17th among the top 25 cities in the nation for home price increases. The median home price in West Valley in May of this year was $272,100.

“Surging job growth and population increases have created tremendous demand for all types of housing,” said Scott Robbins, president of the Salt Lake Board of Realtors. “In fact, last year was the fourth highest housing sales year ever in Salt Lake County.”

Despite the boost in prices, the average cost of a home in West Valley City continues to be a bit lower than surrounding cities, drawing more people to look at the available inventory in the city and pushing sales higher. The median home price in West Valley in May of this year was $272,100. The median sales price in Salt Lake County in the first quarter of this year was $350,250, a drop of nearly 13% from a year earlier.

West Valley City joins five other Intermountain cities among Zillow’s top 25 communities for home value increases. Nampa, Idaho tops the country with a 19.4% boost during the May 2018-May 2019 period. Other regional cities on the list are Boise, North Las Vegas, Nevada, Pueblo, Colorado, and Santa Fe, New Mexico.
